<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a separation state of a transfer member at low cost without using a photointerrupter. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus has a secondary transfer roller 28 which is pressed against an intermediate transfer belt 23 to perform transfer and can move between the pressure-contact state and a separation state, a contact/separation driver which drives and moves the secondary transfer roller between the pressure-contact and separation states, a contact/separation detector ST1 which detects the contact and separation states, and a voltage application unit 61 which applies a voltage between the intermediate transfer belt 23 and the secondary transfer roller 28. The contact/separation detector ST1 has a resistance R1 detecting a current I and a judgement section 63 which judges the contact and separation states based upon the detected current I. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
