PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a programmable time delay apparatus capable of adjusting the time delay with a control signal, after a semiconductor chip has been manufactured, and to provide a method therefor. SOLUTION: The programmable time delay apparatus has a plurality of similar components 10, which determine the total time delay of the apparatus. These components have gate units 31, 32, 33 and 34 coupled thereto. The gate units, in response to the control signal applied to each component, determines whether these components are electrically coupled to the programmable time delay apparatus or these components are electrically removed from the programmable time delay apparatus.
