PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform accurately a head selection test, to shorten its test time, and to short a start time of an HDD. SOLUTION: The HDD performs a head selection test and a magnetic recording test in POR (Power On Reset) processing. In the past POR processing , accurate test data is written previously in respective recording planes of a magnetic disk with the skewness. In the head selection test, the test data with the skewness is read out, it is confirmed whether read data is accurate or not.
