PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet carrying device, capable of restricting generation of correction failure due to buckling of recording paper, and more securely correcting position deflection of recording paper, a method for controlling the carrying device, and an image forming device provided therewith. SOLUTION: The sheet carrying device comprises a lateral position correction side plate 101, a rack 104 and a pinion 105, a lateral registration correcting carrying roller 109 and a lateral registration correcting abutment roller 110, and a CPU 1101. The CPU 1101 adjusts distance of the lateral registration correcting carrying roller 109 and the lateral registration correcting abutment roller 110 from the recording paper 700 for varying carrying force to the recording paper 700, thus varying force to apply the recording paper 700 to the lateral position correcting side plate 101.
