PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent scratching on a workpiece by rubbing and interference between the workpiece and a die and between the workpiece and a punch when punching the workpiece and to raise a hit rate than heretofore. SOLUTION: In the punching machine 1 for punching the workpiece W, when moving and positioning the workpiece W, the workpiece W is situated and supported in the upper part with workpiece supporting tables 33a, 33b and also the punch 11 is made to stand by in a position where the punch 11 and the workpiece W do not interfere with each other and is lower than the elevation limit of the punch 11.
