An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to form an overcoat layer by means of the liquid crystal polymer, thereby arranging the liquid crystal particles toward a constant direction without an alignment layer. A gate line and a data line are crossed vertically and horizontally on the first substrate so that a pixel area is defined. A thin film transistor is formed at the crossing area of the gate and data lines. A shielding layer(210) is formed on the second substrate so that the light leakage at the gate line, data line and the thin film transistor areas is intercepted. A color filter layer(220) is formed on the shielding layer and corresponds to the pixel area. An overcoat layer(300) is formed on the color filter layer and made of the liquid crystal polymer. The liquid crystal polymer is a main chain liquid crystal polymer or a side chain liquid crystal polymer. The liquid crystal polymer has the smectic or nematic phase at the room temperature. A pixel electrode for applying the electric field to the liquid crystal layer and a common electrode formed in parallel to the pixel electrode are formed on the first substrate. |
