A rotational angle detector and a method for initializing the same are provided to reduce a detecting error due to backlash between a driving gear and a driven gear while constraining a computation load. A rotational angle detector includes a storage unit(26), detecting units(17,18,20,21), and a control unit(25). The storage unit stores correction data. The detecting units detect each rotating angle of two driven gears. The control unit adds the correction data stored in the storage unit to actual rotating angles of the two driven gears detected by the detecting units. The control unit acquires a rotating angle of a detected object based on the rotating angles after the addition operation. The control unit includes a computation unit(29). The correction data computation unit computes the correction data during the initial set step and stores the correction data in the storage unit. |
