A waste gas flue for a Kaldo or like converter 10 comprises an inlet portion 1, an angled conduit portion and an upper portion which is coaxially situated beneath a vertical evacuation chimney 3, the flue resting solely on a pivot 4 coaxial with the chimney and carrying a lateral arm 5 mounting a double-walled blowing lance 9 and support means therefor. The flue is laterally guided at its upper portion by a circular train of rollers 32 on a band which moves relative to a ring 30 fixed to a floor (not shown) of the steelworks. Cooling fluid is supplied to a jacket 12 about the flue and to the lance together with injection gas for the lance through flexible pipes and couplings 11, 11a, 11b. Axial movement of the lance is controlled by mounting the lance on a trough-like carriage 14 having rollers 16 running on guide rails via a rack and pinion 19. Movement and inclination of the lance is controlled by mounting the carriage, lance and rails within a pair of plates 20 pivoted about an axis 21 by a drive and worm system 22. A connection 7 in the flue may be used for the introduction of additional products, e.g. ore or limestone, into the converter.</p> |
