A door handle assembly comprises a bracket pressed out from sheet metal for fixing to a door a handle rotatably mounted in and supported by the bracket, a spring interposed between the handle and bracket to urge the handle to a neutral position, and a rectangular cover plate which is pressed out from sheet metal and is fixed in position over the bracket when the latter is fixed to the door. The bracket 10 is secured to the door by screws passing through holes provided in end flanges 25, 28. The handle 14 passes through a hole in the bracket and has a square end supporting a washer 16 with three lugs 17, 18, 19. One of the lugs 18, 19 abuts a lug 33 projecting from the bracket and limits the turning movement of the handle. A spring 21 secured to an extension 20 on the washer 16 and an anchorage point 22 at one end of the bracket restores the handle to its original position. An anchorage point is provided on the other side of the bracket to mount the spring for a handle which turns in the opposite direction. A cover plate 34 removably fits over the bracket and is retained by a screw passing through holes 36. 32 in the cover and bracket. The screw may extend into the door.</p> |
