Production of a patterned knitted article with stitch rows of base thread (BT) and pattern thread(s) (PT), on a flat-bed knitting machine with opposite needle beds, involves: (a) forming a BT row and inserting catching loops with PT('s) in free needles of the other bed; (b) forming a BT row, using BT needles; (c) wrapping catching loop(s) of the other bed around PT needles of one bed, and slipping the wrapped loops with the stitches on the receiving needle; and (c) repeating steps (b) and (c). Production of a patterned knitted article with rows of stitches consisting of a base thread (BT) and at least one pattern thread (PT), on a flat-bed knitting machine with at least two opposite needle beds, involves: (a) at the start of the pattern repetition, forming a stitch row with the BT and inserting catching loops with the PT('s) in free needles of the opposite needle bed; (b) forming a stitch row with the BT, using the needles to be charged with BT to produce the pattern; (c) wrapping the catching loop(s) of the opposite needle bed around the needles of the first bed to be charged with PT to produce the pattern, and slipping the wrapped loops with the stitches of the BT located on the receiving needle; and (d) repeating steps (b) and (c) until all catching loops for the PT('s) are wrapped and bonded into the article. An independent claim is included for a knitted article (specifically a flat or tubular article) formed by the process. |
