A slide assembly for a machine component comprises male and female section members 1, 2, the latter including a strip 4 having two faces 4a, 4b at an obtuse angle a, one, 4b, of said faces bearing slidably on the male member 1, the strip being secured to the remainder of the female section member at its other face 4a by a row of screws 6, and a shim 8 which is inserted between opposed longitudinally extending faces of the strip and female section member, the thickness of which provides control of the fit of the slide; replacement of the shim with another of different thickness provides adjustment for wear. Alternative embodiments are described (Figs. 2, 3, 4, not shown) in which the slide is of dovetail section and in which the shim may require to be replaced by one thicker or thinner to adjust for wear. The screws may be disposed at an angle to the face by which the strip is secured to the remainder of the female section member in order to clamp the shim firmly and the obtuse angle may be re-entrant.
