A method for controlling a long key function in a mobile terminal is provided to implement a long key function without a delay circuit by counting the duration of key input, storing a key mode flag, and determining the booting of a mobile terminal, based on the stored key mode flag. If the power of a mobile terminal is turned on(S1), a power judgement part judges whether the power of the mobile terminal has been turned on by key input(S2). If not, a booting control part starts booting immediately(S6). In case that the power of the mobile terminal has been turned on by key input, a flag control part counts the duration of key input and stores a key mode flag(S3). In booting the mobile terminal, the booting control part deciphers the stored key mode flag(S4) and determines the booting of the mobile terminal, based on the deciphered key mode(S5).
