At a given time only a part of the yarns (2) is heated to the plastic state and then allowed to relax whilst freely suspended. A method for conditioning yarns comprises heating them until they reach a plastic state so that they undergo relaxation and fixation. At a given time only part of the yarns is heated to the plastic state and allowed to relax. This part is freely suspended at this given time. An independent claim is also included for the conditioning apparatus, comprising a means for heating the yarns and allowing them to be freely suspended during heating.
