A mobile terminal having a function to create a short message into a flash image and a method using the same are provided to make a short message into a flash image in order to keep the message permanently, to transmit the message to another mobile terminal through a wire or wireless network or to upload it to an Internet bulletin board. A user turns on a mobile terminal(S110), and selects a flash image type(S120). The user selects character flash images from the second memory so as to use them instead of phone numbers or names(S130). Then the user selects a background flash image stored in the second memory(S140). If the user appoints dates so that short messages within a specific period only can be selected among transmitted and received short messages(S150), a control part reads the short messages transmitted/received during the appointed dates and stores them in the first memory(S160). The control part create flash images using the selected character flash images, the selected background flash image, and the short messages stored in the first memory according to the selected flash image type and stores them in the third memory(S170). The control part displays the stored flash images through a display part(S180).
