An automatic indexing method of a video player is provided to improve the reliability of indexing by performing automatic indexing, combining shape information, texture information, and color information, and performing the indexing according to the combined result. Shape information of all infra frames included in an image is compared with shape information of a previous infra frame to obtain shape similarity(S10). The infra frames in which the shape similarity has a setup value or more are classified into a primary scene conversion point(S20). The picture complexity of the infra frames classified into the primary scene conversion point is obtained, and complexity difference between the infra frames and previous infra frames is obtained(S30). If the obtained difference is a setup value or more, the infra frames are classified into a secondary scene conversion point(S30). After a representative color value of the infra frames classified into the secondary scene conversion point is designated, pixels are classified according to the most similar color value(S40). Difference between the infra frames classified into the secondary scene conversion point and previous infra frames is obtained. If the obtained difference is a setup value or more, the infra frames is judged as a decided scene conversion point(S40). Indexing per the decided scene conversion point is performed.
