A method and an apparatus for fraction of a hydrogen-containing gas mixture are provided to improve hydrogen yield and hydrogen producing capacity in a pressure-swing adsorption process. A hydrogen-rich gas mixture is removed from a hydrogen-containing gas mixture by passing the hydrogen-containing gas mixture above an adsorption bed. The adsorption bed comprises an activated carbon layer and a downstream molecular layer. The adsorption bed further comprises a middle layer between the activated carbon layer and the downstream molecular layer, wherein the middle layer is composed of X-typed molecular bodies, such as CaX type or NaX type.
