The invention comprises dyes of the general formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is an optionally substituted aromatic or heterocyclic radical and R<SP>2</SP> is H, chlorine or bromine. Preferably R<SP>1</SP> is a phenyl radical optionally substituted by halogen, C 1 - C 4 alkyl, C 1 -C 3 alkoxy or a nitro group. They are prepared by reacting an appropriate 1,2- diaminoanthraquinone with an acid of the formula HOOC-CH=CH-R<SP>1</SP>, where R<SP>1</SP> is as above, or a corresponding acid halide, aldehyde ortho ester or acetal at up to 200‹ C., preferably in a solvent, e.g. nitrobenzene. The dyes dye or print polyethylene terephthalate or terephthalic acid /α- dimethylolcyclohexane condensate in greenish yellow to orange shades.
