This invention provides a method for coating film formation, which can efficiently form a coating film having the same finishing as that provided under coating conditions in an actual coating process, and an apparatus for coating film formation and, in addition, a method for toning coating material preparation which can efficiently prepare a desired toning coating material. The method for coating film formation is a method for reproducing finishing of a coating film formed by spraying a coating material onto an object in an actual coating process and comprises an air conditioning step of regulating the temperature and humidity in accordance with atmosphere conditions in the actual coating process, and a coating step of forming a coating film on an object (50) by a coating material atomizing device (30) for spraying a coating material without a coating booth (22). The coating step comprises a coating condition determination step of regulating atomized particle diameter, atomized particle concentration, and atomized particle speed in a spray pattern of a coating material sprayed from the coating material atomization device (30), and a coating film formation step of regulating relative movement between the coating material atomization device (30) and the object (50) based on a coating film formation profile determined by the relationship between the coating film formation time and the coating film thickness in the actual coating process.
