A method for performing multi-function in a portable terminal is provided to perform additional function of the portable terminal and perform multi function when stored information of the portable terminal is searched while downloading contents, thereby improving boredom of a user. A method for performing multi-function in a portable terminal comprises the following steps of: downloading contents by connecting to a wireless communication network(200); comparing current download transmission rate with a predetermined reference transmission rate while performing download(204); and checking whether additional function is selected besides wireless using function when current download transmission rate is less than the predetermined reference transmission rate(206).
