A method for setting a program viewing limit rating in an image display device is provided to allow a user to easily set the viewing limit rating although the user does not understand a difficult rating system accurately in a TV which provides the program viewing limit rating. A user sets a current program viewing limit rating(S201). A control unit confirms the current program viewing limit rating(S202). The control unit judges whether a program viewing limit rating previously set up exists(S203). When the program viewing limit rating previously set up exists, the control unit compares the current program viewing limit rating with the program viewing limit rating previously set up. When the current program viewing limit rating is lower than the program viewing limit rating previously set up, the control unit changes the program viewing limit rating previously set up to the current program viewing limit rating(S204).
