A light emitting apparatus and a method for controlling the same are provided to individually control brightness of a plurality of light emitting parts and light emitting periods and time of the light emitting parts by independently outputting pulse width modulation signals to the light emitting parts. A light emitting apparatus includes a plurality of light emitting parts(D1,D2,D3) connected in series. An electric current supply unit(110) supplies an electric current to the plurality of light emitting parts. A plurality of electric current switching units(120,130,140) are connected with the plurality of light emitting parts in parallel for flowing an electric current to the plurality of light emitting parts or detouring an electric current. A control unit(170) receives brightness information corresponding to each light emitting part, and outputs pulse width modulation signals to the electric current switching units to individually control light emitting time of the plurality of light emitting parts in response to the inputted brightness information.
