Disclosed is a novel method for producing a phosphorus compound having a phosphate-phosphonate bond in a molecule with high purity and high yield without being bounded by the kind of phosphonate containing an alcoholic hydroxy group which is used as the raw material. In this method, a phosphorus compound having a phosphate-phosphonate bond can be produced with a small amount of by-product by using only a nitrogen-containing basic compound and without using a catalyst such as magnesium chloride.
