Provided is a piezoelectric element using a layered type piezoelectric body which can prevent migration between internal electrodes and in which degradation is hardly caused by lowering of polarization even when a temperature change has repeatedly occurred. A piezoelectric element (1) includes a layered type piezoelectric body (2) having first internal electrodes (3b, 3d) connected to a first potential and second internal electrodes (3a, 3c, 3e) connected to a second potential which is different from the first potential. A first and a second external electrode (4, 5) are formed respectively on a first and a second side surface (2c, 2d) of the layered type piezoelectric body (2). A third and a fourth side surface (2e, 2f) are covered by migration-preventing external members (6, 7) containing conductive particles in the dispersed state, preventing migration between adjacent internal electrodes, and suppressing lowering of polarity caused by the pyroelectric effect.
