A radar tracking device and a method thereof are provided to increase tracking performance by updating a gain of a tracking filter in consideration of the characteristic change of an error of a radar measurement value in tracking a target with the radar measurement value. A radar tracking device having an alpha-beta tracking filter(200) is composed of a tracking index unit(210) calculating a tracking index for computing alpha and beta filter gains of the alpha-beta tracking filter on the basis of the change of covariance of a radar measurement value generated in transforming a tracking measurement value from polar coordinates into Cartesian coordinates, and a filter gain updating unit(220) calculating the change rate of alpha and beta filter gains on the basis of the change of the tracking index and a partial differential coefficient of the change rate of the alpha and beta filter gains for the change rate of the tracking index.
