A portable device capable of receiving broadcasting and an operating method therefor are provided to reduce power consumption, easily perform reservation recording, and confirm reservation broadcasting. A tuner(102) receives a broadcasting signal. A channel module(103) separates EPG(Electronic Program Guide) information from the broadcasting signal received from the tuner(102), and outputs the EPG information. A storing unit(104) stores the EPG information outputted from the channel module(103). A sub-display unit(105) displays channel search information about broadcasting capable of being received in a portable device on the basis of the EPG information. A control signal receiving unit(106) receives a signal for controlling the operation of the sub-display unit(105). A power supply unit(108) supplies the power of the portable device. When the main power of the portable device is turned off, a control unit(107) controls the power supply unit(108) to supply power to the tuner(102), the channel module(103), the storing unit(104), the sub-display unit(105), and the control signal receiving unit(106).
