PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a wave motion gear device having a high ratcheting torque tooth profile. SOLUTION: In this wave motion gear device 1, the tooth depth is increased by setting a radial deflection quantity of a main cross section of a flexible external gear 3 to a deflection quantityκmn (κ>1) of a positive deviation. For imparting a continuous contact characteristic to a tooth profile, an entering side locus BD reaching the deepest meshing position D of a conventionally neglected moving locus M when approximating the moving locus M of a tooth of the flexible external gear 3 in a meshing main cross section of the tooth of both gears 2 and 3 by a rack, is taken in a meshing range of both gears 2 and 3, and contact of a straight line part of both tooth profiles is also used for the final meshing after passing through meshing of both tooth profiles on the meshing separation side from the deepest meshing position D of the moving locus M.
