PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hard disk recorder, which when not in use, goes into a standby state in which the hard disk recorder consumes low power, and which is immediately operable, in response to a video recording/reproducing operation or the like operated by a user for attaining ease of use. SOLUTION: The hard disk recorder images an object in its front direction in its standby state (S11), detects a user located within an imaging range and identifies the user (S12). When identifying the user, the hard disk recorder establishes the time, resulting from a lapse of a user dependent individual wait time from the identification time of the user as an individual standby time (S15). When the individual standby time comes or a basic standby time comes without identification of the user, an HDD is set into the standby state in which the HDD is immediately operable of its video recording/reproducing function, when the user makes an operation (S19). The basic standby time and the individual wait time are automatically established, on the basis of a database of execution history of the video recording/reproducing function created at the video recording/reproducing operations (S32).
