摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device which is thinned because its lower part is made short, whose incident angle on a screen is shallow and which is excellent in terms of performance and cost. SOLUTION: In the image display device 108 which enlarges and projects an original image on a light valve 101 onto the screen 106 by an enlarging and projecting means 104, the enlarging and projecting means is an image enlarging optical system 110 constituted of a transmission refraction type optical system 111 and a reflection type optical system 112. The reflection type optical system comprises an optical system having: a first reflection type optical device 113 reflecting and deflecting luminous flux emitted from the transmission refraction type optical system in the vertical direction of a housing; a second reflection type optical device 114 arranged at a position where it is opposed to the first reflection type optical device in the vertical direction of the screen while putting the center of the screen in between and possessing a reflection surface having negative power; and a third reflection type optical device 115 arranged to be opposed to a screen surface on the back of the housing.
