PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a confocal endoscope capable of easily and accurately specifying the in-vivo position of a minute observation image obtained by the microscopic enlarged observation by fading or discoloring the fluorochrome in the scanning range of a laser beam. SOLUTION: The confocal endoscope has laser beam emission intensity control means 66 and 67 for increasing the intensity of the laser beam emitted from the distal end face 26a of an optical single fiber 26, which scans toward a confocal optical system 25 to obtain the microscopically enlarged observation image, only for an instant by the external control.
