The device has a housing (1), in which a laser light source is arranged, which emits light over an outlet (15) provided at the housing. Connections (10, 20) are attached to the housing for connecting the device to a pipeline or pipe adapter of a heating system. An external or internal energy source provides energy to the light source. The outlet is aligned with the connections such that striking of the laser light on a surface e.g. base or wall, facing the pipeline provides a marking point corresponding to the characteristic of the pipeline, where the marking point marks the borehole location.
