A control system for a combustion engine (11) has a charging device (25) for charging the intake air by driving a compressor (27), which is provided at an inlet duct (12) by an exhaust turbine (26), provided at an exhaust duct (22) of the combustion engine. A bleed one-way-valve (33) is provided for opening and closing an exhaust bypass channel (32), which bypasses the exhaust turbine (26). A torque limiting device (38) delays the ignition timing point and the bleed one-way-valve opens when the combustion mode of the engine is switched over from the lean to the rich combustion setting.
