摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device of an internal combustion engine, which effectively warms up an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: An engine ECU 100 variably controls the operating speed of a piston of each cylinder during the catalyst warmup control in which the ignition timing is controllably retarded. The control is performed by giving a drive force from a motor 500 to the engine through a crankshaft 205. In the deceleration periodΔTd from the position of the piston to be ignited to the position of the piston advanced to 90°in crank angle which is set, for example, in an expansion stroke, the speed of the piston is lowered and the combustion time is secured. In the acceleration periodΔTi from the changeover position Tc where the deceleration periodΔTd is terminated, to BDC, the speed of the piston is increased, and the discharge of unburned fuel is promoted.
