PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stably producing a thermoplastic elastomer composition which is excellent in a balance between mechanical characteristics such as flexibility and elastic recovery and molding processability. SOLUTION: This method for producing the thermoplastic elastomer composition, comprising supplying a raw material composition comprising an un-cross-linked rubber, a thermoplastic resin, and a cross-linking agent into a raw material introduction portion of the continuous counter-rotating twin-screw kneader of an extruder manufactured by disposing the continuous counter-rotating twin-screw kneader on the upper flow side and a corotating twin-screw extruder on the downstream side in series, thereby mixing and dispersing the raw material composition with the continuous counter-rotating twin-screw kneader, and then supplying the kneaded product to the corotating twin-screw extruder with the continuous counter-rotating twin-screw kneader to produce the dynamically cross-linked thermoplastic elastomer composition, is characterized in that the cross-link degree Z of a cross-linked polymer component in the kneaded product at the exit of the extruder is 80 to 100%, and the cross-link degree Zi of a cross-linked polymer component in the kneaded product at the exit of the kneader is≤85% of the cross-link degree Z.
