A picture phone a remote control function and a remote control method thereof are provided to enable a user to use various remote control services as well as an existing automatic response function after accessing his picture phone through a PC or another picture phone. A picture phone(1) having a remote control function comprises an image storage part(100), a DTMF(Dual Tone Multi Frequency) detection part(200), and a control part(300). The image storage part stores its own image information to be transmitted to the second picture phone(2), its own image information to be displayed on its own LCD part(400), the other side's image information inputted from the second picture phone, and menu and setup screen information in their respective areas. The DTMF detection part detects a DTMF inputted from the second picture phone, connected with the picture phone. The control part, if a DTMF is detected through the DTMF detection part in an automatic response mode, judges whether the detected DTMF is matched with a preset password. If matched, the control part changes the automatic response mode to a remote control mode. Then, if a DTMF is inputted from the second picture phone in the remote control mode, the control part executes an operation corresponding to the inputted DTMF.
