<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery capable of surely short-circuiting electrodes when the battery is crushed by outside force, and safety is enhanced. <P>SOLUTION: A flat battery element 20 having wound structure formed by spirally winding a positive electrode 21, a negative electrode 22 through a separator 23 is housed in a hollow cuboid-shaped battery can 11. A conductive short circuit member 30 is installed in a gap between the battery element 20 and the battery can 11. When the battery can 11 is crushed by the outside force and deformed, breaks 31 bite into the battery element 20, are stuck, and short circuit between the positive electrode 21 and the negative electrode 2 are surely conducted.
