PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wireless communication system having a moving direction detection function capable of detecting a moving direction of a mobile terminal. SOLUTION: This wireless communication system has a base station 2 having a plurality of antennas 3L, 3R, and at least one mobile terminal 4. The mobile terminal 4 has an identification electric wave transmission means transmitting an electric wave including identification information of the mobile terminal 4 itself. The base station 2 has: an electric wave intensity measurement means measuring a plurality of electric wave intensities when receiving the electric wave arriving from the mobile terminal 4 by the respective antennas; and a moving direction decision means deciding the moving direction of the mobile terminal 4 from a temporal change of a difference between the plurality of electric wave intensities measured by the electric wave intensity measurement means.
