PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device for reporting the quality of an optical disk to a user and suppressing the use of an optical disk highly possible to be unrecordable. SOLUTION: The optical disk device 1 counts the error occurrence (the occurrence of sparing occurrence and that of code correction, etc.) during formatting, recording or reproduction and calculates respective error rates. The optical disk device 1 records the error rates in a DVD 19. When the user instructs disk diagnosing by using an operation part 17, the optical disk device 1 reads the error rate during formatting, the error rate during recording and the error rate during reproduction recorded in the DVD 19 and compares them with a recording difficulty threshold stored in a memory inside the device.
