PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method suitable for efficiently manufacturing a magnetic recording medium having a recording magnetic part patterned precisely. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the magnetic recording medium comprises a process [figure 3(b)] of forming a resin film 21 having a thickness varying part which varies a thickness gradually on a magnetic film 12A', a process [figure 3(c) and figure 3(d)] of forming two or more recessed parts at the thickness varying part of a resin film by pressing a stamper 22 having a stamper main body 22a and two or more projecting parts 22b extending from the stamper main body 22a to the resin film 21 for forming the two or more recessed parts at the thickness varying part of the resin film 21, and a process of patterning the magnetic film 12A' by performing etching to the magnetic film 12A' from the side of the resin film 21. In the stamper 22, a length of extension from the stamper main body 22a becomes longer with the increase of the relative thickness of a projecting part 22b that corresponds to the thickness varying part of the resin film 21.
