PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk device configured to excellently record/reproduce data even when the flying height of a slider is equal to or less than 10 nm, and to secure floating stability of the slider during data seeking. SOLUTION: This magnetic disk device 100 is provided with a piezoelectric element for changing the flying height of a slider 7 by changing the shape of a floating surface facing a magnetic disk 1 upon application of a voltage to the slider 7, and a flying height control unit 303 for controlling voltage application to the slider 7 to change a flying height between in seeking for moving the slider to a predetermined access position and in accessing data in the access position.
