PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To guarantee recording time when recording directly on a removable recording medium in a digital information recorder. SOLUTION: The inner controller 108 determines which to record out of the received bit stream or the bit streams formed in the information re-compressing section depending on the total bit volume of the program and the remaining capacity of the recording medium, then controls the information recording section 107 to start to record the program. It corrects the recording method by changing the resolutions, frame rates, and coding methods depending on the bit volume of the program portion yet to record and the remaining capacity of the recording medium until the program recording is completed.
