PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device capable of restraining heat loss caused by heat flow from a transfer fixing member to a pressure member in an early stage or when starting up from a standby time with simple constitution and reducing the shock jitter of a recording medium caused when the recording medium advances into or slips out of a nip between the transfer fixing member and the pressure member, and to provide an image forming apparatus in which the fixing device is mounted. SOLUTION: The butting part 14c of a pressure roller 14 butts against the core bar part 13b at the end of the transfer fixing roller 13, so as to form a gap GAP 1 smaller than the thickness of paper between the elastic layer 13a of the transfer fixing roller 13 and a pressure part 14a being the recessed part of the pressure roller 14. The heat flow to the pressure member 14 is lessened because of the existence of the gap GAP 1. When the leading edge of the paper P advances into the pressure part (nip), it has only to advance while pressing up the pressure roller 14 by an amount equivalent to a difference between the paper thickness and the gap GAP 1 because the gap GAP 1 is provided in advance. Thus, load is lightened further than when pressing up the pressure roller by an amount equivalent to paper thickness as shown in the conventional manner. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
