PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily detecting surface defects of light-transmitting resin plates, which are difficult to detect by visual inspection and are detected as irregular, recession-like, and other defects, after the formation of a hard coating layer. SOLUTION: A liquid of which the refractive index n satisfies Expression (1) is applied to a light-transmitting resin plate in the method for detecting surface defects of light-transmitting resin plates. n<SB>0</SB>-0.1≤n (1) (where n<SB>0</SB>is the refractive index of the light-transmitting resin plate; and n is the refractive index of the liquid to be applied.)
