In a cycle-hub wherein a simple sun-ring train with permanently fixed sun 12, provides reduced-, over-, and direct-drive by axial movement of a single input clutch member formed on a clutch sleeve 3 having external splines 4 slidably and permanently engaging internal splines 5 in the input sprocket hub 2, the clutch member has teeth 6 selectively engageable with teeth 7, 21, respectively, fast with a planet carrier 10 and ring-gear 14. In the extreme right position of the sleeve 3, the sides of the teeth 6 act through a projection 22 to hold a pawl carrier 15 rotatable with the ring gear 14 right against the action of a spring 26. Pawls pivoted to the carrier 15 are thus held to the right out of engagement with a ratchet 17 on the wheel hub 19, whilst the teeth 6 on the sleeve 3 mesh teeth 21 on the ring gear 14 which imparts reduced drive to the wheel hub 19 through the planet gear and a ratchet clutch 28. In the central position of the sleeve 3 its teeth 6 remain in engagement with the ring gear teeth 21 but the pawls on the carrier 15 are engaged with the ratchet 17 for direct drive. In the extreme left position of the sleeve 3 (shown), the teeth 6 release the ring gear teeth 21 and mesh teeth 7 on a ring 8 fast with the planet carrier 10 which overdrives the wheel hub 19 through the ring gear 14 and ratchet clutch 17. The sleeve 3 is shifted through a thrust block 30 against the action of a spring 32. |
