<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic image forming apparatus that is compact and has a drawing member to which a plurality of process cartridges are detachably attached and which is movable substantially in a horizontal direction across the axial direction of the photoreceptor drum. <P>SOLUTION: The electrophotographic image forming apparatus includes the movable member disposed so as to be movable in the horizontal direction of the main body of the apparatus across the axial direction of the electrophotographic photosensitive drum of each process cartridge. The movable member is movable between a mount position where each process cartridge is mounted in a main assembly of the apparatus and a drawn position where the drawing member is drawn out of the main assembly of the apparatus; and a spacer member that engages with an engaging part and brings a developing roller into contact with the photoreceptor drum and separates it therefrom. When each process cartridge is attached or detached, the spacer member retracts to the position so as not to interfere with the movement path of the process cartridge and movable member.
