SOLUTION: This method for producing the glass microparticle deposit G comprises the steps of reciprocatingly moving a burner array constituted of a plurality of burners 3 and a rod-like starting material S rotating around the axis in a reaction vessel 2 relatively in the axial direction, depositing glass microparticles on the starting material S so that the glass microparticles synthesized in each burner 3 cover each a part in the longitudinal direction of the starting material S, and regulating the reciprocatingly moving speed, or the flow rate of glass raw material gases to be fed to burners or the flow rate of combustible gases, so that the temperature difference between the deposition surfaces in a range that each burner 3 deposits glass microparticles is at 70°C or lower.
