A ceramic honeycomb filter which comprises a ceramic honeycomb structure having many channels separated by porous partitions and sealing parts each disposed in a given channel on the exhaust gas inflow side or exhaust gas outflow side. In the filter, open channels having a sealing part neither on the exhaust gas inflow side nor on the exhaust gas outflow side account for 15-40% by number, excluding 15% by number, of all channels. Any adjoining two of the open channels are arranged in a diagonal direction.
