Process to manufacture automotive floorpan sound deadening floor covering on a density-regulated thermoplastic base layer

In a process to manufacture automotive floorpan sound insulation with or without a carpet (1), a base-mass floor covering layer (1) is placed on top of a layer of deep drawn thermoplastic granules (3). Following the deep drawing process, the combined (4) weight of floor covering and granules reaches a pre-determined mass value. Prior to the deep drawing process, the granules are heated to effect a bond with the base-mass layer. The granules and base-mass materials are both thermoplastics with about the same melting point. The granules have spring-like characteristics. The density of the granular layer varies locally in accordance with the sound muffling characteristics required. The granules and bass-mass are joined by sintering.
