<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a display device of a passive type optical modulation system in which the service life of a lamp being a light source is not shortened even when improving a contrast ratio by changing the light quantity of a HID (High Intensity Discharge) lamp. <P>SOLUTION: The display device includes: a light source temperature adjusting means to adjust the temperature of a light source so as to hold within a predetermined temperature range based on luminance data obtained by digitizing video data; an optical modulation device to receive light radiated from the light source and modulate it in accordance with the video data so as to display a video; and a light source turn-on means to adjust the quantity of the light made incident on the optical modulation device by controlling power input in the light source in accordance with the luminance data. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
