PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element which has an ultraviolet organic electroluminescent capability with a maximum emission wavelength of 400 nm or less, has superior carrier transportability and thin film stability, and offers high external quantum efficiency. SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescent element includes a light-emitting layer, a hole injection layer, a hole transportation layer, and an electron transportation layer. All the layers are disposed between an anode and a cathode opposite to each other. The light-emitting layer contains at least one kind of compound selected from compounds represented by the formulas (1) to (7) (where Sp is represented by the formula (8) (where X<SB>1</SB>to X<SB>4</SB>denote hydrogen atoms or alkyl groups having 1 to 8 carbon atoms or halogen atoms or cyano groups)). The hole injection layer is doped with an electron acceptive dopant of an electron acceptive compound having a nature capable of oxidizing an organic compound composing the hole injection layer. Thus, the organic electroluminescent element is obtained with the organic compound composing the hole injection layer kept oxidized.
