PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for complementing a skin barrier function lowered by irradiation, etc., of ultraviolet light. SOLUTION: The external preparation for skin comprises (1) an N-acylglutamic acid diester and (2) a glycoside of phytosterol. The external preparation for skin has, preferably, a phytosterol residue as a group constituting the ester part of the N-acylglutamic acid diester and the external preparation comprises, preferably further, hyaluronic acid and/or its salt. The external preparation is preferably a cosmetic for summer. The cosmetic has action for complementing a skin barrier function lowered by ultraviolet light. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
